Designer, Maker, Futurist.
As someone who has always challenged the status quo, Filipe’s approach to design and design thinking is rather different than standard. With passion at the epicenter of everything he creates, he truly takes a blue-sky approach to design, with eyes very much set on bringing the future closer to the present. As a child, he would always question why things are the way they are, and the idea of what things could be, ultimately drives him towards design with a future forward perspective.
A Miami native and formerly based in London and Geneva, Filipe has a unique educational and professional upbringing. Graduating from Auburn University in 2016 with a bachelor’s in industrial design, his origins begin with human-centric design for manufacture, where he developed products at the consumer level for different sponsors and entrepreneurs, as well as how to present them effectively to sponsors, potential stakeholders and company board members. He then moved to Europe in 2017 where he obtained his technical certificate in UX/UI design at Ironhack, which allowed him to start his design career in Geneva, Switzerland, first as a junior UX/UI designer for the first ever Swiss real estate tech startup, and later as a multidisciplinary designer and project manager for a Swiss based cybersecurity startup.
Filipe has obtained his masters in design products from the Royal College of Art, specializing in design futures. Featured in 3 web articles and notably mentioned in the Surface Design Show, he developed a prosthetic skin under the narrative of transhumanism; questioning the idea and future of identity, while challenging the public perception of disabilities and enhancements. Simultaneously, he was also designing electric motorcycles for a Swiss based alternative energy and transportation startup. He is currently freelancing in Miami, Florida.
